In September this year, friend of QSC Mark Evans, a Project Manager for KUKA Systems and 3 friends will head off on bikes with Morocco in their sights.
Mark hopes the adventure will raise much-needed funds for a little known charity called The Aplastic Anaemia Trust.
The Aplastic Anaemia Trust carries out fantastic work supporting sufferers and families of plastic Anaemia and provides funding for research into this devastating condition.
Aplastic Anaemia is failure of the bone marrow, preventing the body from producing new blood cells. The charity means a lot to Mark, as back in July 2010 during a family holiday his 9 year old son Owen was taken ill, he was later found to have contracted a liver virus. Over the following months this developed into total bone marrow failure which is when Mark first became aware of the condition known as Aplastic Anaemia.
By November of the same year Owen had lost his fight for life. Mark comments: “To see a previously fit, healthy and very active child have their life taken in this cruel way is utterly devastating and anything that can be done to help reduce the chances of this happening to someone else's child has to worthwhile.”
100% of any monies raised from the Morroco trip will go directly to the charity as the trip is completely self-funded.
Mark is a valued friend and colleague to QSC and we hope others will join us in supporting him with this quest. Donations can be made online at: http://www.justgiving.com/Mark-Evans46
Alternatively cheques can be made payable to ‘Memorial Fund for Owen Evans’ details for where to send cheques can be obtained by calling Mark on 07703 651946. Thank you
